Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wings preferably drumettes and flats
  • 0.25 cup soy sauce for marinade and glaze
  • 1 tablespoon honey for caramelization
  • 2 cloves garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil optional, for extra flavor
  • to taste salt and pepper adjust as needed

Equipment

  • Baking sheet
  • Cooling rack

Method

  1. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture, which helps them crisp up during baking.
  2. Combine soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, sesame oil, and a pinch of salt and pepper in a large mixing bowl, stirring until well blended to create the marinade and glaze.
  3. Add the chicken wings to the bowl and toss them thoroughly in the marinade, ensuring each piece is evenly coated. Let them sit for at least 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  4. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Arrange a cooling rack on a baking sheet and place the marinated wings in a single layer on the rack to allow air circulation and crispiness.
  5. Bake the wings in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until the skin is golden brown and crispy, turning them halfway through for even baking.
  6. Remove the wings from the oven and brush them generously with the remaining soy-honey glaze, coating each piece to enhance flavor and appearance.
  7. Set the wings under the broiler for 1-2 minutes if you desire extra crispness and a shiny finish, watching carefully to prevent burning.
  8. Transfer the wings to a serving platter and arrange them to resemble tiny bats by positioning the wing pieces with tips pointing outward, perfect for a festive look.
  9. Let the wings rest for a few minutes so the glaze sets slightly before serving, revealing a crispy exterior and tender interior.

Notes

For extra spooky effect, decorate the plates with black edible gel or dark leafy greens to resemble bats’ silhouettes.
