Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh fruit (e.g., pineapple, mango, berries) chopped
  • 1/2 cup crushed ice
  • 3 fl oz rum your preferred type
  • 1 tbsp honey or simple syrup optional, for sweetness
  • 1 tbsp fresh lime juice optional, for bright flavor

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons

Method

  1. Add the chopped fresh fruit to your blender, creating a colorful base that hints at the tropical flavor inside.
  2. Pour in the rum, along with honey or simple syrup and lime juice if using—to enhance the flavor and add some zest.
  3. Add the crushed ice to the blender, creating a mound that will contribute to the icy, slushy texture.
  4. Secure the lid and blend on high speed until the mixture is smooth, with the ice fully crushed and integrated—this should take about 30 seconds to a minute and sound like a gentle whir.
  5. Check the texture—if it’s too thick, add a splash of cold water or more lime juice, and blend again until you achieve a perfect, scoopable slush.
  6. Pour the icy mixture into chilled glasses, allowing the slush to mound slightly over the rim for a festive look.
  7. Garnish with extra fruit slices or a small sprig of mint for a fresh finishing touch and serve immediately before melting!

Notes

You can customize this recipe with different fruits or substitute the rum for other spirits. For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the rum and add more fruit juice.
